Sedona Sun

Sedona, AZ 86336, USA
I really wanted my sister to come to Arizona for Thanksgiving, but by the time we checked the flights (in early September) they were either sold out, or extremely overpriced. Instead, we decided to have her come down the weekend before Thanksgiving. Kevin and I thought it would be fun to take her to Sedona. We ended up getting a hotel super last minute, but it was worth it. The hotel had an outdoor heated pool and hot tub, so we were able to enjoy that. The next morning we started by doing the Devils Bridge hike. The weather was absolutely perfect for hiking. This trail is about 5 miles round trip. We had to park pretty far away which made the hike a little bit longer. It was a really nice hike. The spot that you stand for the pictures is actually a little scary. Although it doesn't look bad in the photos you feel like if you accidentally lose your balance you will fall off a cliff. After this hike we made our way back down into Sedona for a little lunch. We tried a fun little bakery cafe called Layla's where we had some really good sandwiches. We ended up walking around the downtown area and visiting some of the quaint shops. We still had quite a bit of light left so we decided to do another hike. The one we decided on was Doe Mountain Trail. This is a 1.2 mile round trip hike, but is mostly just switchbacks up to the plateau. This hike lead to a really amazing view of Sedona.

I would definitely recommend both hikes if you are in town for a day trip. There are plenty of other great hikes, but we will have to save those for another trip and another tourist. ;)

As I sit here to write this I can't help but think of the song "Sisters" from White Christmas. It was such a joy to have my sister with me for the weekend. We decided to make some cupcakes the next day and had a really difficult time with the frosting bag. This endeavor led us both to laughing so hard we fell onto the kitchen floor. These are the moments I live for.

Weekend in Flagstaff

Flagstaff, AZ, USA
We went up to Flagstaff to attend our co-workers wedding. It was such a beautiful day, and beautiful ceremony. The next morning we ate breakfast at our hotel and went to the farmer's market. I was wishing we had a little less for breakfast because there were so many goodies at the farmer's market. We really wanted to see some fall colors so we went up to the Snowbowl. Once we got there we decided to take the chairlift up to the top because, "we're here...ya know?". Might as well.

It was a really nice 30 minute ride to the top where we were able to pause, enjoy some quiet time in the nature and talk. There were quite a few trees that were changing color. Most of the trees around the Snowbowl are not deciduous trees so even in the peak of fall they will be green. After our trip to the top we went to downtown Flagstaff to eat at Diablo Burger. They have the BEST burgers and frites. I wish I could eat here more often, but it is a treat to be able to go when we visit Flagstaff.

Elmers in Oregon

Portland, OR, USA
We enjoyed the most beautiful week in Oregon. We stayed at this unique shop turned rental house on the water built in 1905. Bandon is a quaint little town with seafood shacks, chocolate shops, farmers market, and trinket stores. We went for several walks alongside the ocean, found some tide pools, and even caught some crab. It was so refreshing to be in a place that was below 100 degrees and enjoy some time outdoors. The weather was a perfect 55-70 degrees the whole time. We enjoyed many games of scum, made blueberry cobbler with our freshly picked blueberries, and visited Portland. It was a week to remember! I am looking forward to our next trip to the PNW.

We tried out quite a few food places:

Blue Star Doughnuts
Best doughnuts ever! We tried the lemon poppyseed, raspberry and the OG. My favorite was definitely the raspberry

Pine State Biscuits
Amazing biscuits and gravy and homemade jams

Salt + Straw
We went here a few times because it was soooo good. I had the roasted strawberry coconut and the sea salt caramel

Afuri Ramen
Good ramen place, but I don't remember what kind I got. The dumplings were amazing.

Bangers & Brews
I don't remember what I got, but it was good

Face Rock Creamery
This place has amazing cheeses to sample, great sandwiches and Umpqua ice cream. I got the kids scoop and it was huge

Tony's Crab Shack
I had the clam chowder and it was really good

Ruby Jewel Scoops
They have a lot of ice cream flavors and cookie flavors to make ice cream sandwiches

Mount Hood
Toketee Falls
Bridal Veil Falls
Multnomah Falls
Cape Arago State Park
